Shadab faces more blood tests upon return to Pakistan

Leg-spinner Shadab Khan, who was ruled out of the upcoming England series following a viral infection, will return to Islamabad from London on Monday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Saturday.

Shadab, according to the PCB statement, consulted Dr Patrick Kennedy, a recognised gastroenterologist and hepatologist over his health.

The spinner has been put on medication and advised "complete rest for two weeks", the statement notes.

He will undergo a round of blood tests in Lahore to ascertain whether he will be able to play in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

The World Cup 2019 will begin on May 30, with Pakistan's first match scheduled against the West Indies on May 31 at Trent Bridge.

The selectors have already included Mohammad Amir and Asif Ali as additional players to the 15-man World Cup squad. Changes to the squad without needing ICC's permission can be made until May 23.

Pakistan's pre-World Cup tuneup series against England, comprising a T20I and five ODIs, will be played from May 5-19.

Hope he gets better, he is a crucial player. Whats interesting to note is Mir Hamza averaging 3-4 wickets per game for sussex and Azhar Ali averaging 80+ runs for Somerset. Azhar Ali or not, Mir Hamza should definitely be playing the world cup.

I just wonder that if a cricket player suffering from simple virus can't be treated in Pakistan then why does half the population of Pakistan question 3 times prime minister for choosing to be treated abroad for a very serious heart disease. Secondly, why is our health sector lacking so much behind despite having hundreds of specialized doctors around.

Bad news for Pakistan, we would now require an all-rounder to replace Shadab. Hope he soon gains recovery but PCB should be mindful of his selection, must have to be 100% fit to deliver in a big event.

Hope Shadab the best of health and a quick recovery. All this detail about his personal health is unnecessary and should be avoided in all circumstances. Pakistan needs Shadab, he is a beckon of light that binds Pakistan as a complete unit. Additionally, his energy and fielding his remarkable.

Definitely Shadab’s medical condition is a matter of concern for us. He is our best all rounder. Yasir Shah can’t be Shadab’s replacement because he is not good for ODIs and both his batting and fielding is vulnerable.
