LAHORE, July 14: There has been no word from the railways about the people missing in the accident at the Sarhad railway station. Officials said that on Wednesday Tezgam began its journey from Karachi for Rawalpindi with 670 passengers, Karachi Express from Lahore with 722 and Quetta Express from Lahore with 660 passengers.

They had no information about the number of people, who embarked either from the origin of the trains or from any other station without reservation, especially on Karachi and Quetta expresses.

“We have received over two dozen such queries. It will take time to compile data about such people,” they said on Thursday.

A total of 134 people had been confirmed dead so far. Of the 128 reported injured, around 56 had been discharged from the hospital after treatment.

“The identity of 41 victims cannot be ascertained while identification of another 38 bodies is in progress. As many as 55 bodies had been handed over to the heirs,” the officials said.

“It has been decided by the local elders to bury the still unclaimed or unidentified bodies as amanat at Ghokti graveyard on Friday (today) to save them from putrefaction,” they said.
