LAHORE, July 13: The accident near Ghotki is the first one in Pakistan involving three passenger trains, it is learnt. Officials told Dawn that some 238 people were killed when Zakarya Express had collided with a stationary goods train at Sanghi, near Sukkur, in January 1990. Collision of Tezgam with a goods train in June 1991 at Ghotki had left 54 dead.

As many as 128 people were killed when Tezro bogies and locomotive stuck in the sand after derailment at Mahr Shah near Khanewal in March 1997.
