ISLAMABAD, July 13: The Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) has accused the Sindh government of making transfers and postings in the province in violation of the code of conduct announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan for the local government elections. Talking to Dawn ARD secretary-general Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said he had been receiving news from various parts of Sindh province that transfers and postings of the government officials were still going on despite a ban imposed by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Mr Jhagra, who is also the secretary-general of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) said he had directed all the presidents of the party’s Sindh chapters to maintain a record of such transfers and postings which would be provided to the press at an appropriate time to highlight the violations of election rules.

Meanwhile, ARD parliamentary secretary Izhar Amrohvi told Dawn that he had also received information from the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) leaders in Sindh that transfers and postings of the officials were being carried out in the province. He said former deputy speaker in the National Assembly, Syed Zafar Ali Shah, had himself told him about the violation of the election rules in his constituency of Noushero Feroze.

He asked the Election Commission to take notice of the situation. He further said the ARD would also raise the issue in parliament.
