LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), July 12: Oil supply to Afghanistan remained suspended for the second day on Tuesday as oil tanker drivers refused to cross the border unless measures were taken in Afghanistan for their protection. More then 100 tankers were parked at Torkhum, Hospital Chowk and Sultankhel. A representative of oil tankers, Amin Shah, told Dawn that oil supply to Afghanistan would remain suspended till more than 100 vehicles stranded at Latha Bund area of Afghanistan were released and a safe passage into Afghanistan was provided to them.

Long queues of long vehic-les and oil tankers were also seen across the Torkhum border as Afghan officials have stopped them for fear of being attacked by the Pakistani drivers.

The oil tanker drivers had on Monday threatened to forcibly stop Afghan drivers and their vehicles from entering Pakistan.

Sources in Torkhum said that Haji Chakka, an Afghan official in Latha Bund has established a barrier on the road and was not allowing vehicles with weak engines as these vehicles were unable to climb the steep and bumpy road.

A delegation of Khyber Agency transporters on Tuesday also called on the assistant political agent Landi Kotal and apprised him of their problems.

The APA assured the delegation that the issue would be taken up with Afghan Counsel in Peshawar.
