WASHINGTON, July 12: The US State Department has said that it has “a number of concerns” about the human rights situation in Pakistan but did not elaborate. Acting spokesman Tom Casey of the State Department’s acting spokesman Tom Casey made these remarks when asked to comment on the introduction of the Hasba bill in the North-West Frontier Province assembly.

Mr Casey said he was not familiar with the Hasba bill and therefore could not comment on this piece of legislation but in general the human rights situation in Pakistan was not good. “Obviously, we have a number of concerns related to the human rights situation in Pakistan,” he added.—Correspondent
