KARACHI: The NED University of Engineering and Technology has launched an online degree verification system based on blockchain technology being used in several countries for the same purpose.

The system developed in-house with the technical support of Block Shift Technologies (a start-up of the NED University Alumni) will help degree verification using Ethereum platform (an authenticated public blockchain) through a unique ID from anywhere in the world.

“The NED university is the first university in Pakistan using this technology for verification of degrees. The system is highly reliable, saves time and cost for verification of documents.

“It provides a swift mechanism especially for institutions where graduates of the university are in the process of seeking admission for higher education,” says a press release.

Several reputed institutions such as MIT (USA), University College London (UK), Southern New Hampshire University (USA), University of Melbourne (Australia), International Islamic University (Malaysia), Ngee Ann Polytechnic (Singapore), ECPI University (USA) are among the institutions using this technology for verification of degrees and certificates, it adds.

The system was inaugurated by Ms Ava Ardeshir Cowasjee and acting regional director of Higher Education Commission Hakim Ali Talpur at a ceremony organised on the university campus.

Also in attendance were NED University Vice Chancellor Prof Sarosh Hashmat Lodi and members of the university syndicate.
