TAXILA: Chairman Public Accounts Committee–II Punjab Syed Yawar Hussain Bokhari on Wednesday said all public sector departments, especially utility services, would be made accountable to improve their performance.

Talking to newsmen during his visit to Attock on Wednesday, Mr Bokhari said during briefings from various departmental heads they had been directed to improve their performance, streamline and computerise their record to ensure transparency and merit at every step.

Responding to a question, he said the issue of delay in pensions to retired employees had been taken up with the officers concerned and they had been ordered to avoid unnecessary delay.

He said pending work of the PAC would be cleared on priority while necessary amendments would be made to improve performance of the committee.

He said transparency would be ensured in award of contracts.

The Punjab PAC said new jobs were being created, especially 700 vacant posts in accounts and audit departments would be filled on priority basis.

While replying to another question, he said that Mother and Child Care Hospital having capacity of 200 beds besides a state of the art Nursing School will be established in Attock.

The 125 beds would be added to DHQ Hospital, he said, adding all basic health units and rural health centres were being upgraded to ensure better health facilities to the people of Attock district.

Mr Bokhari said during the last six months 900 domestic gas connections had been given to the consumers on merit.
