FBR extends returns filing date to April 30

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the date of filing of income tax statements for the tax year 2018 till April 30, a press release announced on Monday.

The date of filing of returns for companies, individuals and association of persons is also extended to April 30.

According to the FBR, the decision has been taken in view of numerous requests by various trade bodies and organisations along with other taxpayers seeking extension in the date of filing of returns for tax year 2018.

"All persons, who have not yet filed their returns, are urged to take advantage of this opportunity," read an FBR press release.

The FBR already warned that it has extensive plans to pursue and legally proceed against those persons who are liable to file returns but don’t file it by this extended date.

What other options does the FBR has got at this crucial juncture in time and history to expand and increase the number of possible tax filers in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan where less than 10 percent people pay their taxes?

Your dates are a joke. Why don’t you pick a date and make it mandatory and after that make a hefty fine. People needing extension must file extension on the due date.

Why extend when those who didn't file their tax yet won't file it even before 30 April.....cease their bank account, fine them .... .

Time and again I have read that FBR extends the date to file income tax returns but why and how? Sky will not split apart if FBR announces one date and sticks to it with no reference to any extension.We mock ourselves by extending last date.Iqbal Hadi Zaidi

There is a humble suggestion to PM Pakistan for increasing the tax net.Transfer the posting of entire Traffic Police Karachi to FBR with their wireless Challan Machine.Their new assignment will be to issue Challan/ register as eligible for Income Tax on spot to all those non filers who are found living beyond the prescribed earning of Rs1.2 m pa.We will able to register 10 m people with tax recovery of Rs 10000 trillion pa.

They are still extending 2018 returns date? Isn't it almost time to file 2019 returns now? FBR is a total failure.

If you keep extending the deadline, no one will take you seriously. Why don't they learn from USA IRS. The date is fixed and will not change. If an individual needs more time, they can apply for extension.

It would be interesting to know what is the additional amount of tax received by extending the date of filing till March 2019. Time to take action against non filers/ tax evaders/ tax thieves. Non filers are enemies of country. Strict action should be taken against these enemies. It is unfortunate media is more interesting about the health of Nawaz Sahrif, train March of Bilawal, money laundering of Zardari,rift between Shah Mahmood and Jehangir Tarin etc. It would be alot better if media build movement against non filers. This is matter of survival of our country. Momentum should be build up against non filers so they should be forced to file their returns.

If it is the Income Tax return for the year ending June 2018, then the last date was announced having expired on 31st of Dec, 2018. If it is for current tax year, it is much much premature to be a worry for tax payers. I am perplexed and need a clarification.
