THE first-ever University Sports League (USL) initiated recently by Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government is a good step. This will help the Pakistan Cricket Board to select players from universities.

The player who will do well will have the chance to represent Pakistan and play with the national cricket team.

The USL’s first press conference was held at Government College University in Lahore.

The provincial minister for higher education, Raja Yasir Hamayoun Sarfraz, said that all sport events will be held between public and private universities of Punjab.

The minister said that 48 universities will be placed in five groups and there will be one group for women as well. I wish them well in their endeavours but urge them to include students from other parts of the country as well. We have great talent in Gilgit, they just need to come and find us.

Clearly, something has changed since for this step to have been taken and there are shifts in the balance of power within.
