DADU: An influential landowners was arrested on rape charges and produced before a court, which remanded him in police custody for seven days.

An uncle of the victim, a 28-year-old deaf and mute woman, lodged an FIR at the Khuda Abad police station on Sunday accusing the suspect of keeping her at his autaq (guest room) residence in Mohabbat Jalbani village, 29 kilometres from here, for about six months and subjecting her to rape off and on.

The woman was taken to the Dadu Civil Hospital for a medical examination, which confirmed that the woman had six months pregnancy.

Khuda Abad SHO Moha­mmed Younis Panhwar said that the police had obtained the suspect’s seven-day remand for interrogation.

‘Suicide’

A 21-year-old woman, Aisha Gadehi, allegedly committed suicide by shooting herself at her home in Bego Shakh village of Johi taluka on Sunday.

Her relatives claimed that she had a quarrel with her husband, Mumtaz Gadehi, over some domestic issues after which she took his gun and shot herself. She died instantly.
