ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) here on Friday launched spring tree plantation campaign.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Ziaul Qayyum inaugurated the month-long campaign by planting some seasonal saplings in the compound of the university’s main campus. Around 50 saplings were planted on the first-day.

The AIOU is the mega distance educational institution with nearly 1.4 million students wished to play a leading role in developing Green Pakistan, said the vice chancellor.

The campaignwas arranged by the University’s Horticulture Department. The university has also set up a botanical garden at the campus for promoting research in horticulture sector.

According to a statement, the botanical garden works as open lab withdocumented collections of living plants for scientific research, conservation and display.

The treeplantationevent was participated by the officers and the staff of the university.
