LG SYSTEM: The participants of the Kohat region convention on ‘strengthening of local government and all its tiers’ have vowed to defend the system in its 2001 basic form.

The convention was held at the council hall in Kohat on Tuesday which was attended by provincial president of local bodies association Rematullah Mayar as chief guest besides vice-president Qasim Ali Shah, district nazims of Kohat, Hangu and Karak and councillors.

Mr Mayar demanded early payment of outstanding stipends of the nazims and release of development funds so that the benefits could reach the people.

The participants termed the LG system in its 2001 form as the best that offered solution to all problems at the grassroots level. They described it as a guarantee to development where equal facilities were provided at the rural and urban levels.

They asserted that any change in the tiers of the local government system would not be accepted.
