KHAR: The local authorities have finally decided to restore mobile internet service in Bajaur tribal district after suspension of around three years, an official said on Monday.

The official told Dawn that the move to restore mobile internet service was taken on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan during his visit to the district on Friday.

According to the official, deputy commissioner Usman Mehsud has issued directives to the relevant officials of all the cellular companies to resume 2G, 3G and 4G services with immediate effect.

The official said the service was expected to properly resume on Tuesday (today) across the district.

Meanwhile, the residents welcomed the district administration’s decision to restore the mobile internet services in the district.

They also thanked the prime minister for taking keen interest in resuming the internet facilities, saying restoration of mobile internet service would boost socioeconomic activities in the tribal district.

They expressed the hope the mobile phone companies would restore the service as soon as possible. They were optimistic that the prime minister would also fulfill the other promises he made during a public gathering on Friday.

It is to be mentioned here that mobile internet service was suspended in the district on June 12, 2016, over security reasons.
