JHANG, July 8: The tehsil administration has divided Chiniot sub-division into seven sectors to deal with the threat posed by high flood in river Chenab which is likely to hit on Saturday morning. The divided sectors are: Chiniot, Bhowna, Chenabnagar, Lalian, Barana, Jamiaabad and Harsa Sheikh. Chiniot deputy district officer (revenue) Ali Jan Khan told reporters, after presiding over an emergency meeting of officials of departments concerned, that each sector would have a relief centre to provide help to the marooned people.

He said the relief centre would have staff from revenue, police and irrigation departments. The centres would also be equipped with boats to evacuate the people from the flood-hit areas.

All relief goods, including eatables, would be sent to these centres for their onward distribution among the affected people.

Meanwhile, holidays of all revenue and irrigation department staff have been cancelled while the army has also been called out to help the civil administration in the relief operation.

Reports from Chenabnagar reveal that several villages on the right bank of river Chenab, including Kot Amir Shah, Kharkan, Ahmadnagar, Kot Wassawa and Sangra have been evacuated and the population shifted to safer places.
