KARACHI: The Jamaat-i-Islami on Saturday asked the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s government in the Centre and the Pakistan Peoples Party-led Sindh government to coordinate with each other regardless of their political differences for the sake of development of Karachi and early completion of mega projects in the metropolis.

The suggestion was forwarded during a meeting of a JI delegation led by its Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rahman with President Dr Arif Alvi at Governor House, where the two sides discussed several issues mainly related to Karachi.

The JI Karachi chief after the meeting expressed his confidence that being a Karachiite, President Dr Alvi would play his role in resolving the problems of the city.

“We discussed the issues pertaining to Karachi and appealed for early completion of development projects,” he told journalists after the meeting.

“We shared our concern with the president over several issues and about delay in their completion, including the K-4 water supply project, Green Line project and other development projects of the metropolis. The president has assured us of his full support and says that he would take up the matter with the authorities concerned.”

He said that despite being revenue engine of the country, Karachi did not get the attention of the Centre, which it deserved.

It’s time for the PTI government to make a difference and bring change in the decades-old status quo, he added.

“We believe that the two sides [the federal and the provincial governments] should coordinate with each other for better and quick results,” said the JI Karachi chief.

He said that the JI delegation also took up the matter pertaining to release of Dr Afia Siddiqi from a US prison and the president had assured them that efforts at government level were being made in this connection.
