PRIME Minister Imran Khan receives Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al Jubeir at PM Office on Thursday.—PID

ISLAMABAD: Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al Jubeir on Thursday reassured Pakistan of the kingdom’s support for peaceful settlement of disputes with India.

The junior Saudi foreign minister extended the assurance to Pakistan during his meetings with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Fore­ign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Army Chief Gen Qamar Bajwa.

According to the Foreign Office, Mr Jubeir conveyed “sincere wishes of the Saudi crown prince to the leadership and people of Pakistan, expressed deep appreciation for Pakistan’s restraint in the existing charged environment”. He assured Mr Qureshi “of the kingdom’s support to seek peaceful settlement of all outstanding disputes bet­ween Pakistan and India”.

Prime Minister Khan thanked the Saudi leadership for their support.

Mr Qureshi told Mr Jubeir that the establishment of the Saudi-Pakistan Supreme Coordination Council would help in advancing bilateral relations in a targeted and time-bound manner.

Adel Al Jubeir meets PM Imran and COAS Bajwa

The visit was also used as an occasion to follow up on the decisions taken during Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman’s visit to Pakistan.

Mr Jubeir met Gen Bajwa at GHQ. “During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security and current situation between Pakistan and India were discussed,” the ISPR said. “The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s positive role for regional peace and stability and reaffirmed KSA’s support to Pakistan,” it added.

Luxembourg Minister

Luxembourg’s Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn, who is on a two-day visit to Pakistan, met Prime Minister Khan and Foreign Minister Qureshi.

PM Khan recalled the measures taken by Pakistan to de-escalate and resolve all outstanding issues through dialogue.

Foreign Minister Assel­born appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for peace and stability in the region.

Foreign Minister Qureshi in his meeting with Mr Asselborn discussed a wide range of regional and bilateral issues and agreed to enhance cooperation in political, trade and economic, educational and cultural spheres.

Mr Asselborn assured full cooperation of his government for working together with the Pakistani government to enhance bilateral relations in all areas of mutual benefit.
