LAHORE: Up to 181 graduates were awarded degrees at the second convocation of the Information Technology University (ITU) on Wednesday.

The convocation was held at Aiwan-i-Iqbal.

Of the 181 graduates, who were awarded degrees in the second convocation, include 61 of BSCS, 56 of BSEE, 12 of EMBITE, 43 of MSCS and nine of MSEE. Up to 139 students were declared successful in the first convocation held on Dec 2017.

Those awarded gold medals and degrees included high achievers from computer sciences, electrical engineering and executive master in business, innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.

Those awarded gold medals include Mohammad Asim Iqbal (BS-Computer Sciences), Reuel Sabir (BS-Electrical Engineering), Hammad Tahir (MS-Computer Sciences), Muhammad Asim (MS-Electrical Engineering) and Ahmad Ali Raza (Executive MBA in Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship).

The ITU has been awarded ‘W’ category by the National Computing Education Accreditation Council and an endorsement from the Higher Education Commission, which is the highest ranking a university can achieve with regard to academic and research prowess and is awarded only to those institutions which meet the requirements as proposed by the governing bodies.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Ahmad said the market-oriented degrees together with knowledge, skills, attitude and professional ethics were the strength and core value of the successful graduates who had attained the status of international citizens as they can apply their knowledge across the globe.

He said the graduates had market value as presently for 1.5 million students, the available faculty was 40,000 whereas the requirement was 75,000 in Pakistan.

He said Pakistan being part of the global village has enormous opportunities for our educated skilled youth as 90 per cent of the graduates have got jobs within and outside the country.

Prof Ahmed urged the students and the faculty members to get publish their research work in national and international journals, which would be rewarded to the faculty and for students’ waiver of tuition fee.

He said ITU’s resources, infrastructure, addition of new subjects were playing major role in its uplift and turning it to a general university.

SPORTS GALA: The Punjab University Centre for Clinical Psychology (CCP) organised a sports gala on Wednesday.

CCP Director Dr Saima Dawood welcomed chief guest Dr Rafia Hassan, founding director of the CCP.

Students also arranged various stalls of food, jewelery and other accessories besides arranging sports events.
