THE Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government has announced its intention to build five million houses for citizens who do not own any house. This is a huge project that involves many stakeholders like builders, banks, financial institutions and the federal and provincial governments. For the scheme’s successful implementation the House Building Finance Corporation expertise must be solicited.
The HBFC is a state- run pioneer institution in housing finance with more than 60 years of experience. The government should utilise the experience of this institution as a loan-disbursing agency keeping in view its decades-long experience in the housing finance field. For the HBFC to play a successful role, the government should bring structural and administrative reforms in the corporation.
