ISLAMABAD: Retired Brigadier Amir Gulistan Janjua, a former governor of erstwhile North-West Frontier Province, which was later renamed as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, died on Monday in Rawalpindi.
He was 95.
Mr Janjua was born in village Gohra Rajgan, Choa Saiden Shah in Chakwal tehsil.
He served as governor from 1988 to 1993.
According to family sources, Mr Janjua passed away due to natural causes at 8pm on Monday. He was admitted to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology, Rawalpindi.
His Namaz-i-Janaza will be held at the Army Graveyard, Race Course Ground in Rawalpindi, at 4pm on Tuesday (today).
Mr Janjua also remained ambassador to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Nepal and served as the ambassador for 16 years.
He was awarded Sitara-i-Quaid-i-Azam and Tamgha-i-Pakistan. He was also awarded Nishan-i-Taj (Iran), Grand Order of Kokab (Jordan) and Dakshan Bahu (Nepal).
