National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi on Friday arrested PML-N leader Kamran Michael, the former federal minister for ports and shipping, over allegations of misuse of authority and pocketing over Rs1 billion in bribes.
The anti-graft body's spokesperson, who termed the arrest a “major breakthrough”, said that Michael has been accused of illegally allotting three commercial and residential apartment plots in prime locations of KPT Cooperative Housing Society (Mai Kolachi area) in Karachi to his favourites, against which he allegedly received a huge sum.
“The former federal minister abused his authority by influencing the officials to carry out his illegal orders of making allotments in 2013,” said the NAB official, adding that the trio of plots are worth Rs1.05 billion.
Take a look: Abuse of authority
The evidence against Michael, NAB Karachi says, was unearthed during their investigation into a corruption reference filed in a separate probe involving 16 other plots.
Micheal was the minister for ports and shipping between 2013 and 2016. He had held several other portfolios as well in federal cabinets across different tenures.

Excellent.
NAB is slower than a snail.
hmm, that is why Aleem Khan was arrested.
Good job.
Good job NAB, let's get all these black sheep cornered up.
So NAB is on line now? What were they doing all these years
We are only interested in fake accounts ! Nothing is more important for Pakistanis .
NAB is arresting corrupts but not everyone is being punished. Cases need to be closed fast to make any impact in the society.
No one should be spared of any wrong doing it does not matter if the culprit belong to opposition parties or the treasury bunches. arresting Aleem khan is a very good example. I started to believe in NAB if these accused are are convicted under hard evidence and stolen money is recovered.
It seems one by one all ministers are coming out being corrupt.
Please do not show any leniency to these crooks. They got these high posts to steal from the poor govt of Pakistan. They had no mercy while they were stealing. Now its the govts turn to show no mercy.
@aman, but they have nothing to do with your group.
Great Job! That's what our nation needs!
Another great catch by NAB. Thank you NAB, keep up the good work.
Is there anyone in the former government who's not corrupt?
Gordon D. Walker
Canada
Next step is to recover this money. Just arresting and not punishing will promote corruption and its also an expense on government to keep these big fish in high class facilities.
When would the bigger thief’s will be arrested.
PPP and PML-N have ruined this country. We need to be thankful to PTI for this thankless job of takung on the clearing of the mess.
@Sameer, Look at the task at hand and so many are in cohorts .
Present speaker too? Naya Pakistan zindabad
Immediately cancel these allotment and punish those who bribed and bought.
Any recovery from big FISH....???
Every corrupt politicians must face charges and jail time...no mercy!!
@Meer, you are too darn sceptical. Swati and Aleem ths far, more will fall from PTI. Trust NABs independence, or die a sceptic.
What about people from MQM minister who once remained shipping minister, do NAB will have to take permission from establishment for their arrest, certainly not because they are part of government now
Must catch as many fat purses to collect donations needed for the real rulers and to keep running the country.
Aleem Khsn arrest was a balancing act. At present there are more corrupts in PTI than any other party. IK himself pays Rs150K per annum tax and lives a very luxurious life
I hope nab will look in to al watan project which was canceled in his time when he was minster of port and shipping
What happened/happens to the officials who were influenced? Perhaps they have ''offered to cooperate'' now after so many years.
Totally disgusting and abhorring. Can anybody point out any saint among these looters posing as past custodians of country’s meager resources belonging to both major parties, who instead of gulping billions together, just stopped after having corrupted few millions?
Thank you so much NAB
