SAHIWAL: Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ijaz Hussain Shah and other joint investigation team (JIT) members visited Sahiwal for a second time on Friday to probe into the killing of three people of a family by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Jan 19.

The team visited the crime scene at Qadirabad on Multan Road and the Yousafwala police station to record the statements of eyewitnesses. JIT members also met the Sahiwal police personnel who arrived at the crime scene on Jan 19 after the deadly shooting, which claimed the lives of three people of a family and the driver.

Sources said the JIT recorded statements of 10 public eyewitnesses. Also, the car (LER-6663), which came under the fire of the CTD, was shifted to the Yousafwala police. JIT members examined the car. The members counted 52 bullet marks on the white Alto car. For further forensic examination, the car is being shifted to the forensic laboratory in Lahore.

A source said JIT members stayed in Sahiwal for more than five hours. The six CTD personnel involved in the Jan 19 shooting were shifted from Lahore to the Noor Shah police station amid tight security.

They are Sub-Inspector Safder Hussain, Hasan Khan, Ahsan Khan, Muhammad Ramzan, Saifullah Abid and Husnain Akbar. It is learnt JIT members will interrogate CTD personnel and submit challan of the case with the Sahiwal Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC). The personnel were to be produced before the ATC on Thursday. Sadar Deputy Superinetndent of Police Falik Sher, also a JIT member, told reporters all the accused were in the CTD custody. Dawn learnt from sources the JIT also invited Muhammad Jalil, complainant of the case. The first information report of the case was registered against 16 unidentified CTD personnel.
