LAHORE: Various departments of the Punjab government will plant 12 million saplings under the three-month plantation drive.

The prime minister and the chief minister will also plant the saplings.

This was stated at a meeting held with Chief Secretary Yousaf Naseem Khokhar on Wednesday. He ordered steps for improving sanitation conditions in districts and making upcoming spring tree plantation campaign a success. The local government secretary was asked to start visiting various cities, especially Gujranwala, to review cleanliness arrangements.

He said tree plantation was necessary to control the increasing pollution.

He said the campaign was aimed at promoting tree plantation and citizens should take part in it. He also underlined the need for launching a community mobilisation and awareness campaign regarding benefits of the tree plantation.
