SAHIWAL: Joint Investigation Team head Additional IG Ijaz Hussain Shah along with other members of his team recorded statements of eyewitnesses at Qadirabad on the national highway where CTD had showered a car with bullets on Saturday and killed four people.

It was JIT’s second visit to the crime scene in two days.

Talking to reporters, Shah said since FIR had been registered under the 7-ATA, at least 30 days were required to complete a report but his team had been given just two days.

He said it was very difficult for the JIT to complete its work and reach a conclusion in such a short time. “The situation is very difficult and complex.”

Anyhow, he said, he and his team had tried their best to submit initial report to the chief minister.

Dawn learnt from sources that JIT members interrogated five CTD personnel involved in the shooting. Sub-Inspector Safdar Hussain led the team which included Ahsan Khan, Muhammad Ramzan, Saifullah and Husnain Akbar.

Quoting unknown official sources, a TV channel claimed the Punjab chief minister contacted Ijaz Hussain Shah soon after the police official spoke to media and reminded him that he was not supposed to go public on this sensitive issue.
