PM Khan discusses economic cooperation with Qatari counterpart

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday met his Qatari counterpart Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani in Doha, Radio Pakistan reported.
Bilateral relations, with a focus on economic cooperation between the two countries, were discussed during the meeting. The Qatari premier also hosted a dinner in the honour of the visiting delegation.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Finance Minister Asad Umar, Petroleum Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Adviser to PM Abdul Razak Dawood, Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari, Board of Investment Chairman Haroon Sharif, Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua, Ambassador of Pakistan to Qatar Syed Ahsan Raza Shah were also present during the meeting.
Earlier in the day, Imran Khan reached Qatar on a two-day visit at the invitation of the country's emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
Upon their arrival, the delegation was received by Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Soltan bin Saad al-Muraikhi at the airport.
The premier is also expected to hold meetings with the Qatari emir discuss matters of mutual interest. According to RadioPakistan, the prime minister will also discuss the matter of exporting labour to Qatar.
In December last year, Qatar had opened a visa facilitation centre in Islamabad for swift processing of visas of members of the Pakistan workforce wishing to work in Qatar. Doha has also promised 100,000 jobs for Pakistani workers, and the government is in talks with the Qatari government to adjust skilled members of the labour force returning from Saudi Arabia.
Last week, Petroleum Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan had also said that the prime minister "may request the Qatar government to provide a credit facility for LNG supplies and revise the prices" during his visit to Doha. Finance Minister Asad Umar and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi have already visited Doha one after another in recent weeks and are understood to have put the matter on the table, according to Sarwar.

Good to know that he would try to persuade Qatari authorities to accommodate skilled workers returning from Saudi Arabia where things are pretty bad these days. No idea what Saudi authorities would do with empty residential blocks as workers and their families are leaving the Kingdom in great numbers. It's no longer affordable for workers to stay there after imposition of tax on each family member by the government.

@Suraj71, Nothing should be done without proper inquiry...In fact, It is IK only who acted properly after this tragedy i.e., wait for the outcome of the inquiry before initiating any action. Other ministers started saying things that are none of their business, and should not have been said before a proper inquiry.

@toomuchtymez, There is a difference between travelling for your country and for your own personal financial gains, which previous Govt's PMLN & PPP leaders use to do. China has shown the lowest growth in 28 years. Although it is still high, it may go down further. So, Chinese aid will not be free flowing! There are issues with clearances for the port being constructed.
So the real issue - how much of aid or doles expected this time? How much jobs for Pakistanis? How much for military alliance and support? How much of oil on deferred terms? How much likely use of CPEC by Qatar?.
Nice going, but it won't last too long!

PM foreign tour is Avery important trip , that could benefit thousands of Pakistanis , it’s about jobs , investments, and industry, CTD is an internal matter which has to be handled by experts in the same dept , and all facts have to be unearthed, before any action can be taken ,it’s a very serious issue , such incidents have taken place in the past , but no corrective measures were ever taken , it’s time the police is trained and disciplined and their supervisors held responsible, it seems that wrong information was deliberately pumped into the system to create this havoc , who did it , and why, all these questions need to be answered.

IK has no option but to travel and ask Qatar and similar countries like Bahrain, Nigeria, etc. and ask for loans or delayed payment for LNG. IMF is not giving any loans so he has to ask for loans wherever he can to avoid bankruptcy in an an year or so.

Qatar is the largest investor in Lands & a Conglomerates in Africa, Australia,UK,
and USA. Pakistan can be added in list, if proper feasibility presentation is made. In near future thousands of skilled and non-skilled labors are required for Foot Ball World Cup. The instant visit is a timely and important visit. Let’s hope

The criticism of PM is baseless. The survival of 200 million Pakistani citizens is more important than few petty things. Pakistan had no interaction with the Muslim countries (except Qatri's letter) and other world leaders in the past two years. There was no foreign minister. Please give PM Imran Khan a break. Guys, fine ...understand you all about IK traveling but please understand one thing that IK is not the only person to tackle all issues in PK. After both former govt. left huge finacial crices and if IK govt will not quick actions we will not manage with many issues. Give him a chance I sure he ll keep eye on his ministers. Recent tragedy in Sahiwal for sure he will take care he want to wait for the report which as per law rather then to say big words infront of media. It is sure finally we have an honest man ( leader) give him time.

Good if he gets jobs for Pakistanis but with dignity and respect. Our people are treated worse then animals in all the gulf states. Do you need to do it different. This won’t be possible if you have a begging bowl in your hand. Better offer them investment opportunities. They lack fertile land. They should be encouraged to invest in modernizing agriculture in Pakistan and that will help resolve food problem in Pakistan, plus we can export to China, also Qatar and our Qatari investors can earn from it too.
