Pepper sandwiches are now a thing

People are trying all sorts of weird and wonderful things to be healthier. But one thing we didn’t expect was the creation of the pepper sandwich. This ‘sandwich’ is where the two halves of a pepper replace the bread. Green peppers or capsicums are a decent zero-carb.

The creation was devised by nutritionist Rachel Paul, known as Collegenutritionist on Instagram. On her post, she said that bell pepper sandwiches are the ‘coolest things ever’, and that they contain four-five ounces of protein. This no-bread sandwich is really nutritious way to get more water into your diet.

“The water in veggies is actually very hydrating,” explains Rachel. “Many people think you need to drink water to keep yourself hydrated — but water from non-starchy vegetables is very beneficial as well.”

Maybe this alternative sandwich will breathe new life into the humble green pepper. The only way to find out is to give it a try and make one for yourself with a filling of your choice.

Math test during wedding ceremony!

It is very common to have themed parties like colour-themed, Disney or Fairytale character-themed birthdays or even weddings, but we have never heard of a math-themed wedding.

Recently a bride-to-be shared online that she and her partner are both mathematicians and so would be incorporating “mathematical tidbits” into their wedding day.

A screenshot of the bride’s Facebook status was uploaded and hundreds of people have since read it and responded. The post reads: “At the dinner, guests will be required to answer a mathematical question in order to find out where they sit. Every guest/couple will be presented with a unique, bespoke question — its difficulty and subject matter drawn directly from what we know their mathematical background to be.”

She went on to explain that many of the guests there on the day would have a research-level mathematical background — and some of the questions had even been taken directly from their research papers.

Despite the clear level of effort she’d gone to, people thought it was a bad idea to make maths mandatory at a wedding. One person commented: “Upon looking into my background, they would likely decide to just sit me at the kid’s table.”

The cat who doesn’t have eyes

Meet Kazou — he might not have eyes but he still knows how to have a good time. He was found as a kitten at around eight weeks old, but he was in a pretty bad way.

He only had one eye left when a local animal rescue organisation in Germany found him and it was heavily infected. His foster mum tried to save it but unfortunately, it had to be surgically removed and the eyelids of both his eyes were sewed together to prevent infections.

In November 2014, Sabine Fallend, a friend of his foster mum, adopted him.

“His foster mum described him as a very calm cat to me — but after his eye surgery, he grew to be a very active and “sassy” cat. What I’m trying to say is removing his eyes was like a release for him. All the pain was gone and he started to ‘bloom’.

“He acts like every other cat, there’s nothing he can’t do. The only difference is in climbing downwards. He needs something to touch with his front paws to find his way down. “When he’s stressed (because of loud, strange noises) you notice that it’s harder for him to navigate around objects.”

Sabine describes him as “very inspiring for many people and of course for me. He had a great effect on my life and my way of thinking.” Kazou also has a Facebook page with pictures of all the things he does.
