LAHORE: The outer walls of cages at the Lahore Zoo will be decorated with murals symbolising the herald of spring.

The [mural paintings] programme had been initiated in 2018 under which a number of zoo walls were draped with colours. The idea had been floated by Zoo Director Hassan Ali Sukhera and appreciated by the public. The murals based on [spring] ideas will be done with all-weather paint having emulsion coat.

Some five or six walls have been marked for the purpose where different scenery forms will be painted depicting nature, birds and animals.

The director said: “Such murals help in recreational and educational activities and the zoo looks vibrant and colourful.”

He said the zoo would also hold its long-awaited art competition on the theme of wildlife in February in which students from different institutes would be invited to paint the wildlife in captive breeding. Later, a group show of artworks would be held.
