HARIPUR: Haripur district nazim Adil Islam was removed through a no-trust vote here on Monday.

At least 45 members of the district council, both from his own PTI and PML-N, had tabled a no-trust resolution against the nazim on Thursday last. After mandatory debate on the motion on Friday, the convener had fixed Monday for voting which was held amid tight security.

Convener Agha Shabir Ahmad asked for vote count soon after the start of the proceedings, and during the voting through show of hand, 56 members of the 59 present in the house, voted in favour of the motion while three abstained. After the vote count, the convener announced the removal of district nazim which would be formally notified later by the ECP.

Adil Islam, cousin of MPA from PK-52 Faisal Zaman, was accused of corruption, mismanagement, being at loggerheads with the administration, of adopting derogatory attitude towards members, and supporting his cousin during the general elections against the PTI candidate. He survived four similar attempts in the past.

However, Mr Islam rejected the no-trust move, terming it aimed at politically victimising his family at the behest of some local politicians who wanted to install one of their cronies in his place.
