KARACHI, June 29: The Sindh executive of the Pakistan People’s Party on Wednesday decided to prop up a joint platform of all political parties and democratic forces, which were opposed to the provincial government’s alleged brutalities, mis-governance, soaring prices and growing unemployment. The decision was taken at a meeting, chaired by PPP Sindh chief Syed Qaim Ali Shah, after the party’s provincial secretary-general Nafees Siddiqui briefed the participants on the decisions taken in the meeting of Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy.

“It has been decided that the PPP will forge a common platform in Sindh with anti-government political parties and democratic forces, including students, workers, lawyers, intellectual and journalists to act against the regime which has unleashed a reign of terror, pushed the prices up and beyond the reach of common man, made a large number of people unemployed and forced many of them to commit suicide,” said Nafees Siddiqui.

The meeting also decided that the PPP would fully participate in the upcoming local government elections despite victimization of PPP cadre by the ruling coalition and its alleged manipulations and pre-poll rigging either in the from of transfers and postings or fragmentation of districts and talukas.

It took stock of the political, social, economic conditions and law and order situation in the province and deplored the government for failing to provide security to the people. Concern was also expressed over target killing of religious and political elements by the terrorists.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Pir Aftab Shah Jilani, Jam Saifullah Dharejo, Rashid Rabbani, Dr Fahmeeda Mirza, Waqar Mehdi, Abussalam Thaheem and Shagufta Jumani.
