LONDON: A semi-permanent body to facilitate Commonwealth co-operation on race relations, citizenship and immigration is expected to be set up by the current Commonwealth conference. The six-point plan placed before the conference by Foreign Minister Mian Arshad Husain was discussed last night [Jan 10] by delegates from the 17 Commonwealth countries at the meeting of conference’s Committee on Immigration. ... British Home Secretary James Callaghan as well as several other delegates paid tributes to the Pakistan Foreign Minister for his initiative on immigration and allied matters. British Ministers present at this meeting last night are understood to have been emphatic that both for political and social reasons this country was unable to increase the inflow of Commonwealth immigrants or Kenya Indians and others holding British passports.
