KOHAT: Deputy inspector general of police, Kohat region, has asked the district police officers to make the dispute resolution councils (DRCs) more effective for the resolution of family and property-related disputes.

Chairing a high-level meeting at his office on Wednesday to assess the crime ratio and general law and order, he stressed that they should encourage community policing for the welfare of people and ensure protection of their life and property.

The meeting was attended by DPOs of Kohat, Karak and Hangu besides SPs investigation and other officials. He said that in view of recent threat warnings to educational institutions from Afghanistan their security should be made foolproof. He said that drug peddling and firing in the air should be curbed and activities of recently-released prisoners monitored. He appreciated the role of DRCs in helping the people to solve their problems out of court.

SEMINAR: District nazim Nasim Afridi has expressed concern over sexual and physical assaults on children, especially those begging on the streets, where parents avoided reporting the cases to police due to fear of public disgrace to the family.

Addressing a seminar on ‘sexual and physical torture of children’ in the district council hall here, he regretted that as the society considered it as stigma and not a crime the immoral people guided by their lust were being encouraged. He said that the children were now more prone to such assaults.

He said that child beggars were easy targets falling victim for earning a few rupees while the culprits took advantage of their poverty. He said that in such cases the parents also did not ask the children about the source of money. He urged philanthropists to come forward and educate such poor children about saving themselves from victimisation. He appealed to the teachers, parents, lawyers and ulema to raise their voice in the society against the menace.
