QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani decided to convert the status of Gwadar Municipal Committee into Gwadar Metropolitan Corporation while chairing a high-level session on Monday.

The meeting was attended by provincial ministers Nawabzada Tariq Magsi, Zahoor Buledi, Mir Asad Baloch, Zia Langove, Mir Saleem Khosa, Naseebullah Marri, Zamrak Achakzai, Abdul Khaliq Hazara, Ziaulla Langove, Chief Secretary Balochistan Dr Akhter Nazeer and other government official.

It was agreed to declare Gwadar as the metropolitan corporation in the development master plan which would help in boosting development activities in the port city.

Meanwhile, Mr Alyani directed the department concerned to submit a report regarding declaration of other municipal committees into corporations on the basis of population and landscape.

“The provincial government seeks to empower local body system and intends to transfer administrative powers to lower level which will benefit the masses,” the chief minister said.

Measures were being taken to increase expertise of local body departments through amendment in the Local Government Act so as to purge out any ambiguity, he added.
