RAWALPINDI: A police post has been established in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) after a demand was made by the housing scheme. The police post was made functional on Friday.

DHA had sought police cooperation in curbing the growing theft and robbery cases and asked Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Amjad Javed Saleemi to establish a police post in the housing authority to ensure a peaceful and safe living environment.

When asked, the IGP confirmed that the housing authority had sought help and said they were granted permission for a police post in Phase-II.

The DHA management has informed residents that a police post has been established in Phase-II and that it had been made functional on Friday on Lane-II, Sector D.

According to sources, DHA Islamabad-Rawalpindi had written a letter to the Deputy IGP Punjab, asking for the establishment of a police post in DHA-I to curb crimes there as well.

The DHA management said it has been making efforts to provide a safe and secure living environment to its residents through its own security apparatus which requires close coordination with the local police station.

They told the police a post in Phase-I is important for better coordination, timely exchange of information, timely appearance on crime scenes and easy access to residents.

The management maintained that the establishment of a post will absolve residents of Phase-I of unwarranted panic and will facilitate the Morgah police in gaining a better grip on crime in the area.

The DHA management also offered to provide land and bear the expenses of establishing the police post.

The Punjab IGP has sought a report from the regional and city police officers in this regard.
