LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to launch a campaign against narcotics in schools.

“A special campaign will be launched in educational institutions to save them from narcotics and a committee has been constituted to work on this issue,” Punjab Schools Education Minister Murad Raas said at a meeting with private school owners on Thursday. He discussed proposals about saving schools from narcotics.

Mr Raas said students and their parents should also be consulted on the campaign.

“Teachers should also sensitise students and raise a feeling of disgust about narcotics in them. The role of school councils is also important and they should conduct awareness sessions in schools about the harmful effects of narcotics,” he said.

He said his department would continue monitoring of educational institutions to keep providing a healthy environment to the students. The meeting decided the schools education department should prepare videos and booklets to educate the students about the harmful effects of the use of narcotics.

The minister asked private school owners to help the government make a narcotics-free society. He said the sale of betel nuts, cigarettes, niswar and such harmful things should not be allowed in the periphery of educational institutions.
