PESHAWAR, June 27: The Pakhtun Students’ Federation (PkSF) has demanded a judicial inquiry into the murder of a student at Gomal University in Dera Ismail Khan. It also demanded release of students jailed on the charge of creating unrest in the university and cancellation of expulsion orders issued against some students. Speaking at a news conference on Monday, Azeem Khan, president of the PkSF, Gomal University unit, warned that his comrades would observe hunger strike outside the Governor’s House and NWFP Assembly if their demands were not met within a fortnight.

He said that the killers of the class IX student, Asif Ali Shah, had got scot free but cases had been lodged against ‘innocent’ students. Mr Khan alleged that a group of four university officials was creating unrest at the campus because a meeting of the father of the victim with the governor had infuriated the group.

The group, he further alleged, had deprived the deceased’s sister of the post of assistant director (finance) at the university though she had topped the merit list, and had given the post to its favourite person.

The PkSF leader said that the expulsion of 29 students from the university for two years was in violation of the rules and added that the expelled students had not been given a chance to defend themselves.

VICTIM’S FATHER: Meanwhile, Khan Sahib Khan, the father of the victim, has threatened self-immolation if the killers of his son are not arrested, and said that his family was receiving threats from the accused.

Talking to journalists, he said: “My one son has been killed and others are facing threat to their lives,” and demanded protection to his family.

“My son was killed by watchman Shaista Khan who wanted to abuse the boy,” he said and added that his son, a student of the university school, had moved an application before the university authorities, seeking protection against Shaista but the request had gone unheeded.

He expressed confidence in the university vice-chancellor who, he said, had assured him that the people responsible for killing his son would be brought to book.
