Fixed wheat quota sought

Published June 28, 2005

QUETTA, June 27: The Pakistan Flour-mills Association, Balochistan chapter, has demanded a fixed wheat quota of the province on the basis of the 1998 census, to avoid flour shortage. Speaking at a joint news conference in the press club on Monday, Abdul Wahid Breach, chairman, and Abdul Ali Kakar, president of the association, alleged that officials of the provincial food department created hurdles in the supply of wheat to flourmills.

They said Balochistan was provided 7.2 million bags annually according to 1998 census, but now only 2 million bags were provided, causing shortage of wheat in the province.

The defence department, they said, had directed the food department that for logistic supply, it must keep the stock of three months to avoid any problem.
