NAROWAL: Sixteen students were injured when a train collided with a school van on Sialkot-Lahore track due to fog on Tuesday morning.

The Lasani Express was on its way to Lahore and hit a van carrying more than 30 students at Pejowali level crossing 10 kilometres short of Narowal due to fog. Sixteen of the students were injured.

A team of Rescue 1122 with the assistance of locals shifted Muhammad Hassan, Muhammad Saleem, Munawwar, Muhammad Boota, Shahbaz, Bilal, Abdullah, Mahak Iqbal, Muhammad Fahad, Laeba and others to the District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital of Narowal.

Dr Muhammad Bilal claimed that all the injured students were out of danger.

Officials of Rayya Khas police station, traffic police and district administration also reached the spot and got information. The residents of Pejowali said thick fog and unmanned level crossing resulted in the accident.

In another accident, a motorcyclist died after being run over by a train while crossing the track.

Muhammad Junaid, 25, who resided at Manak village, was going somewhere when a train coming from Lahore hit him. Junaid was run over and breathed his last.
