ISLAMABAD: The National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) has launched a child rights training program for the capital police.

The program was launched at an event in the Police Lines Headquarters on Tuesday.

The program is aimed at building the capacity of the Islamabad police when dealing with children in police stations in the capital and to raise awareness about child rights in the police department.

The chief guest at the event was Federal Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi who appreciated the recent efforts of the inspector general of police (IGP), Islamabad in particular and the police department in general.

He said the prime minister agrees with the IGP’s vision to make the Islamabad police a model force in the country. He said the government fully supports the IGP Islamabad’s drive against the drug and land mafias and other criminals.

IGP Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan urged the police to deal with everyone with respect, dignity and honour.

“Put yourself in their shoes,” he said, adding that this will lead to bridging the trust deficit between the police and citizens.

NCHR Chairman Ali Nawaz Chohan appreciated the police’s efforts and expressed hope that the initiative will become a regular feature.
