Samar grabs winner

RAWALPINDI, June 25: Al-Aziz and Friends clubs advanced to the semifinals of Rawalpindi District Inte-club hockey championship by winning their respective quarterfinals at Gordon College ground on Saturday.

Al-Aziz Club knocked out Afghan Club by a solitary goal while Friends overcame Awan Club 5-4 in a penalty shootout after the match was deadlocked at 2-2 in the scheduled period.

The all-important goal of the match for Al-Aziz Club against Afghans was grabbed by left-half Samar.

In the scheduled time of the second quarterfinal, Imran and Nadeem scored for Friends while Azher Iqbal and Ibrahim were on target for Awan Club.

In the remaining two quarter-finals of the tournament at the same venue on Sunday, ARL will play Khan Club while Satellite Club will take on one of the teams qualifying from the Wah round of the competition.—APP
