ax PESHAWAR, June 25: Police recovered a 10-year-old girl on Friday, who was kidnapped for ransom on Tuesday. A press release on Saturday said that however, the group of kidnappers who were waiting for ransom, escaped after a chase on the Warsak Road. The kidnappers had demanded Rs2.5 million for the release of the girl, Maham, from her father, Abdullah Jan Marwat.

Mr Marwat informed the police that the kidnappers had asked him to come along with the ransom money.

The police went to the place, but the kidnappers, who were wearing masks, after seeing them tried to escape in their car.

After a brief chase the kidnappers left the car on a roadside with Maham and escaped in the streets of the populated area on the Warsak road.

PROTEST: Residents of several localities in Peshawar on Saturday staged protest demonstrations against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) for resorting to unscheduled load-shedding, residents told Dawn.

Residents of Waliabad, Behramabad, Mohmandabad, Rashid Ghari and Wazir Bagh road took to streets and blocked the busy Kohati Chowk for four hours.

They chanted slogans against Pesco for resorting to unscheduled load-shedding. The residents said that they were experiencing four to five hours load-shedding.

They said that the load-shedding at night hit them hard, particularly the children and elderly people, they said.

Meanwhile, residents of the areas along Kohat road and Matani also staged a protest demonstration against Pesco for load-shedding.
