Textbook mistake

Published December 13, 2018

THE English-version science book of class VII prepared and produced by the Sindh Textbook Board — reviewed by the Bureau of Curriculum and Extension Wing Sindh and approved by the Education and Literacy Department — is not a book but a source of misinformation.

One of the misinformation is when the book says in its fourth chapter and page 65: “camels drink lot of water at one time to store it in their humps.”

This is one of the myths people have that the camels store in their hump the water that they drink.

Actually, if the quick observations are made, the camels store water in their red blood cells and these are not necessarily only in their humps but the whole circulatory system of the camel. This book is also full of poor grammatical structure.

The departments which prepare, produce, review or approve such scientific books should ensure that the information is authentic.
