LAKKI MARWAT: Police arrested six suspected persons during a search operation in the Afghan refugee camp in Nali Chak locality of Naurang town on Saturday.

The operation was launched on the directives of regional police officer, Bannu, Abdullah Khan, following information about presence of suspected people in the camp, said an official, adding policemen and lady cops of Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak police station and commandos of Quick Response Force backed by armoured personnel carriers took part in the action.

The official said the law enforcers also seized three unregistered motorcycles during the operation.

The arrested persons have been shifted to the police station for interrogation, maintained the official, saying police had also increased patrolling on roads and in the town.

Meanwhile, the health department with the support of district administration has completed arrangements for polio eradication campaign commencing from Monday, said LHW programme coordinator Dr Nisar on Saturday.

He said over 192,000 children would be administered with anti-polio drops in the district and adjoining tribal subdivision. In Lakki, a total of 782 teams, including 699 mobile, 47 fixed, 27 transit and nine roaming, would launch the campaign, while 49 teams would vaccinate the children in adjoining subdivision, he maintained.

He added the mobile teams would visit each and every house, while fixed teams would be present in hospitals and health centres to immunise children against the crippling disease.

The official said transit teams would be deployed at public places and bus stations to administer anti-polio drops to children travelling along with their parents in public transport.

The roaming teams will launch vaccination activity in Afghan refugee camps and areas with nomad population, he said.
