PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has taken notice of collection of extortion money from Afghanistan-bound trucks and directed the provincial police chief to submit a report about the issue.

The issue was raised at the district assembly earlier this week and the council was informed that Afghanistan-bound trucks from the fruit and vegetable markets were being forced to pay Rs5,000 extortion money per truck.

A statement issued here said the chief minister had directed the KP police chief to present a detailed report on how to stop such acts.

The statement quoted the CM as also saying that the government was taking steps to extend jurisdiction of judiciary, police, revenue and excise to the merged districts as rest of the departments had already been merged with those of the province.

Another statement said Prime Minister Imran Khan would likely visit the provincial capital next week, where he would inaugurate a shelter home and also give a briefing to the provincial cabinet on the completion of the party’s 100-day plan.
