KHAR: Security forces on Thursday claimed to have foiled a terrorist attempt by seizing a big quantity of weapons and explosives near the Pak-Afghan border in Bajaur tribal district.

An official of the security forces told mediapersons at Bajaur Scouts headquarters here that the weapons and explosives were seized during an inelegance-based operation in the remote locality of Amanata, located some 20km from Khar.

He said that a number of rocket shells, rocket launchers, remote-controlled bombs, missiles, hand grenades, bomb-making material, explosives, guns, magazines and cartridges were among the seized weapons.

He said that all the weapons and armaments were recovered from an underground place along a dry canal. He said that most of the weapons seemed to have been hidden in the area for past several years.

The official said that investigation was underway to know about the elements behind storing of the weapons and their motives. Answering a question, he said the local people assisted the security personnel in the search operation. He said that the weapons had been shifted to Khar while the bombs were defused on the spot.
