RAWALPINDI: The main water supply line from the Nawaz Sharif Park overhead tank to adjoining areas on the Double Road, near the Cricket Stadium was damaged and water supply was stopped for a day.

Water started leaking from the supply line in the afternoon on the Double Road near the main market and water accumulated on the main road. The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) had to stop supply for a day. Water did not drain out from the road for several hours due to the poor drainage system.

“The leak happened on the main supply line, which is 10 inches in diameter, from the main joint and repair work has started. However, supply will be resumed Monday morning,” said Wasa Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood. He told Dawn that the main supply line is of cement and was leaking at the joint due to pressure.

“We have already replaced many of the old supply lines and the remaining will be replaced with new pipes soon,” he said. Locals had to suffer a day of interrupted water supply. They said water supply should have been restored the same day as repairing a supply line is not a hard task.

A resident of the area, Raja Shahid said private water tankers were also not available due to the expected protest by Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan on Murree Road and that his family and neighbours had to spend the day without water.

Another local, Mohammad Qaiser said he had to get drinking water for his family from a local water bore.
