KARACHI, June 22: PPP-Parliamentarian President Makhdoom Amin Fahim has reiterated his party’s demand for early and transparent elections under an independent elections commission and vowed to bring back the party chairperson Benazir Bhutto to lead the country on the road to progress and stability.

He was addressing a large number of party activists at Bilawal House who had gathered there on Tuesday night to celebrate 52nd birthday of Ms Bhutto.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim claimed that General Musharraf’s house of cards was about to collapse and only a genuine democracy could bring stability and security to the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that the party founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, when he was in jail, had declared that Ms Bhutto was his successor and there was no contest of the leadership of Benazir Bhutto. He declared that the PPP would not accept anything without her.

Others who attended the function included Aftab Shaban Mirani, Ali Nawaz Shah, Waqar Mehdi, Haji Muzaffar Shujra, Amjad Baloch, Aajiz Dhamrah and Aamir Shah.

Fire works were displayed by the members of People’s Youth Organization and hundreds of pigeons were also set free on the occasion. The programme ended with the cultural and musical programme.
