PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority seized 30,000 kilogrammes of Chinese salt during a crackdown at Ring Road, Peshawar, on Thursday.

A spokesman for the food authority, Waqarullah Khan, told mediapersons here that a team of the food authority led by Mohammad Ali Shah, the authority’s board officer, conducted the raid on a cargo adda at the Ring Road following a complaint and recovered a huge quantity of Chinese salt.

The official said that the team seized 30,000 kilogrammes of Chinese salt and arrested the owner of cargo adda on the spot. He said that the authority would take further action against him. He said that the food authority had been taking action against violators of food safety rules across the province.

Meanwhile, the spokesman said that a bakery had also been sealed for unhygienic condition there and sale of expired food items during a crackdown in Town-I area. He said that a team headed by assistant director Asad Ali carried out checking in various bakeries and confectionary shops in Phando Road area of Peshawar and sealed the outlet.

The official said that the authority had also taken action in Town-II area under the supervision of an assistant director and conducted raids in various shops and hotels and checked food items there. He said that the owner was fined for selling expired items and using substandard raw materials.

He said that the team has also issued improvement notices to over 16 shopkeepers in the town-III area of Peshawar.
