Local boxers feeling the heat

KARACHI, June 21: Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) has adopted discriminatory attitude towards the national team as it is staying at hot and humid National Sports Training and Coaching Centre (NSTCC), while foreign participants of Asian Junior championship are lodged at a four-star hotel.

All eleven boxers are staying at NSTCC along with Cuban coach Reinaldo Alvarez, his wife and one of his assistants Adam Kachchi.

While all the 15 teams and technical officials are enjoying their stay at cosy air-conditioned rooms of the hotel situated comparatively close to the venue KPT Sports Complex, the Pakistani boxers have no air-conditioning facility in this sweltering weather.

Not only the discrimination by PBF must be affecting team’s morale because of sense of deprivation, team has to travel a distance of some 15 kilometres from NSTCC situated in Gulshan-i-Iqbal to the venue near Merewether Tower. On the other hand, foreign teams are staying within four or five-kilometre radius of the venue, taking less time to reach the sports complex.

Meanwhile, Pakistan team remained without manager on the second day as Habiullah Jaffri, who has been appointed the manager, did not reach Karachi from Quetta, although he had stated on Monday he would be joining the team on Tuesday.
