MIRPURKHAS: The World Diabetes Day was observed on Wednesday in the Civil Hospital of Mirpurkhas where a seminar was held in which a large number of doctors and paramedical staff participated.

Addressing the seminar, Dr Rajkumar Sufi, Dr Abdul Wahid Khaskheli and Dr Gareesh Kumar advised diabetic patients to exercise daily, lose weight, use vegetables and fruits daily and visit their doctors regularly to keep sugar level in control for good health.

Sukkur: According to surveys carried out by Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) and other NGOs of the government as well as private hospitals, the number of diabetic patients in Sukkur and its adjoining areas has increased alarmingly.

Even a large number of youths were suffering from it, but they were unaware of their condition, they said.

Dr Ghayas-us-Shan of PIMA and Dr Abdul Aziz Memon said diabetes was one of the chronic diseases which were spreading in Pakistan fast; it affected heart, liver, kidneys, eyesight etc.

They said the disease could be controlled if efforts were made to create awareness among public.

They said the use soft drinks, packed chips, fast food and other unhealthy items was the main cause of the spread.

They said that it had become a routine of people to eat one meal at hotels and restaurants while soft drinks were used like water. People should adopt a healthy lifestyle, they added.
