Chicken smuggling

Published November 14, 2018

POULTRY smuggling is creating problems for poultry farm owners who are being forced to shut their businesses.

According to a recent estimate, almost 0.5 million chickens are being smuggled to Afghanistan on a daily basis. Because of this the poultry sector is greatly suffering. At least five million chickens are needed for local consumption, which is the cheapest source of protein.

Recently, the poultry dealers in Turbat said if the government would not stop chicken smuggling, it would further raise the price.

Besides, unemployment will also increase in case poultry farm owners are compelled to close their farms because of this situation.

The government should take immediate steps to stop chicken smuggling.
